Friday Sketchbook 4 + Six things...
Splashes of color this time— I decided to play with cut painted and inked paper, which I found intriguing as an alternate thing to explore. The main downside is I don’t seem to have a good glue solution yet (any ideas?). I’m thinking about switching this to be less scans of my sketchbook and more carefully considered images that I come up with. We’ll see how that goes...

An exercise...
So my day off has been a little treat: a stop at Utrecht, big inky swashes in my illustration, scanning color reference, listening to dirty calypso songs like this one, and finishing The Creative Habit. While not all of it seems easy for me to implement, I really liked some of the strange little exercises Tharp put in the book.  On the way to the art supply store, my brain got a little idea of...

Friday Sketchbook 3 + Six things...
I wrote a long post in here, but Tumblr ate it. I’m going to rewrite it from memory, but needless to say it was much nicer before. Long story short- Frank wrote something, then Kate, then Crystal, now me. I’m going to try and keep it up weekly, since I’m already posting on Fridays with sketches.  Ritual. It’s been something I’ve kind of missed since coming out...

Friday Sketchbook no. 2.
A little behind on my sketching time this week (intense projects going on), so I’m pulling from my ‘archives.’ More new sketches to come next week!

Friday Sketchbook no. 1.
One thing’s for sure— I draw about 10,000 faces, eyes, etc in my sketchbook. In the efforts of blogging more, sketching more, practicing more with ink and wash, and getting ideas readied (and yes, trying to draw more than just faces), I’m going to start posting pages from my sketchbook every Friday. Next week, I’ll post some Alice themed sketches since my new post for...

Rose City Bestiary, pt. 3 of many.
Some more updates to the bestiary…. as usual, lots more to come. Really enjoying washes, though I can’t wait to have more practice!

Notes to myself, ages seventeen and twenty-seven.
Well lookie here, my first book came in the mail yesterday! Also, new glasses. Meant to post this yesterday, but I didn’t have the urge to— it was my birthday, and now at the ripe old age of twenty-seven I’m awful pensive and at a few crossroads in my career. Roughly only a hundred more days in Arizona left before I rocket my belongings up to Oregon, so I’m definitely on...

More drawings from the garden...
Issue 11 of Jamie Magazine just came out, and with it, a new set of gardening illustrations. (I’m currently at work on issue 12, which includes more squirrels and pumpkins. Pumpkins are one of my recurring assignments— I did about thirty for Nick Jr. back in the day, and one for Vegetarian Times last year. Good thing it’s fun for me!)  Since it makes better sense in context of...
