I was asked to take part in a project called 50 AND 50, aka the State Mottos Project— where 50 designers would take their home-state’s motto and illustrate it. I’m from Connecticut, and our motto is Qui Transtulit Sustinet, or He who transplanted sustains. (They also use grape vines in the seal, which amuses me since I’m pretty sure we aren’t known too well for our vineyards, but that’s symbolism for you) Being someone who has transplanted herself twice in the five years since I left Connecticut, this motto sort of resonates with me.
This one was fun too because I got to layer some dry brush and fool around with masking pens. Experimentation is always fun.
