Lessons I am learning:
My brain doesn’t really understand painting anymore. I guess it did when I had to, but years of thinking digitally and as a printmaker/drawer has made my brain go ‘wahhhh!’ at the thought of working in paint.
It’s not all bad. I really really love cutting frisket and masking off bits and then painting loosely over it. See also here, although I messed it up and had to ink over it to make sense. But I do really like the white parts and the background, and the little bits of painted paper I glued down…
The above image is a mix of digital and paint. My big problem is that I’m so used to drawing and when it comes to detail in paint, it just looks clumsy. So for now I guess I can fiddle with painted layers and ink layers in Photoshop til I get better with my skill.
I still draw too many heads. Back to the sketchbook!
